New details have emerged about the suspected thugs who ambushed and killed a police officer in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, and disarmed him and his colleagues.
Police said the gang stole two weapons, an AK47 rifle with 30 bullets and an MP5 with 30 bullets, and fled on foot.
Police said witnesses said one of the attackers was wearing Arafat headscarf and the other was wearing a face mask.
They killed police officer Edwin Elocho by stabbing him in the neck, face and chest, while his colleague had his rifle stolen and ran wounded into the bushes.
They were delivering papers to Mahero Secondary School when they were attacked from behind in the early hours of the morning.
The survivor was admitted to Lwamba Hospital and later transferred to Siaya Referral Hospital.
Police were dispatched and chased the suspect who fled from the area on a motorcycle.
Police said two knives and black body armor were recovered from the scene. Police say they have not yet determined the motive or background of the incident.
